Visual design

The visual design aspect of the design process includes overall visual asthetics and portrayal of a given brand, but perhaps even more importantly the creation of interfaces that are well ordered and easy to understand and engage with. I have solid experience of all aspects of visual design as well as of working with dedicated visual design resources

Prior to focusing on the UX design aspects of web sites and applications I spent 4 years working as a website designer, taking responsibility for all aspects of creative visualisation for a large number of websites ranging from 1 page Flash animations to larger database driven applications, always seeking to strike the right balance between visual appeal, function, originality, and ease of use.

I have a good understanding of sales, marketing and corporate branding, as well as a naturally creative flair for the compilation of colour, fonts and graphics.

Strong visual design skills have helped greatly during the creation of wireframes and other UX documentation. They have also enabled me to provide valuable input into the sometimes challenging task of ensuring that the usability of page layouts is maintained during the creative and development phases of digital interface design & production.

The following are examples of visual design work I have been engage in:

  • Visual 'look and feel' for whole websites / applications
  • Style guide covering all core design patterns and guidelines for a given project
  • Rich interfaces comprised of charts, graphs and global maps
  • Branding and logos for start-up companies
  • Flash pages, animated banners and other assets
  • Downloadable brochures
